A_bottle_of_lindisfarne_mead_made_exclusively_on_holy_island
Lindisfarne Mead is a unique alcoholic fortified wine manufactured here on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne from fermented white grapes, honey, herbs, the pure natural water from the island's artesian well fortified with fine spirit.

Mead has for centuries been renowned as an 'aphrodisiac' and the word Honeymoon is derived from the ancient Norwegian custom of having newly-weds drink mead for a whole moon (month) in order to increase their fertility and therefore their chances of a happy and fulfilled marriage...

What is Mead?

In its simplest form, mead is just honey and water, fermented with yeast so that the sugars in the honey turn to alcohol. Originally, fermentation was left to wild yeasts from the air, or from the dregs of old stock. There are several variants of mead:

  • metheglin is a spiced variety which was supposed to have medicinal powers.
  • pyment is a grape wine, sweetened with honey;the Romans called it mulsum.
  • cyser is fermented apple juice and honey, perhaps a forerunner of cider;
  • melomel is a fruit mead; made for example, with raspberries,
  • sack mead is sweeter than mead; honey and malt fermented together make an ale called bracket,

World famous 'Lindisfarne Mead' is not only the connoisseur's choice but makes a supreme drink for young and old alike whatever the season. To many it is regarded as the 'nectar of the gods'.

Come sample our collection of fruit wine flavours at Xanders and you'll soon realise what you've been missing.

Erd

Erdinger Weissbier

Erdinger Weissbier is not only the undisputed classic in the Erdinger product range, it is also quite simply the wheat beer par excellence.

It is brewed using fine yeast according to a traditional recipe and, of course, in strict accordance with the Bavarian Purity Law. Even today, the beer is still bottle-fermented in the traditional way; it takes three to four weeks for Erdinger Weissbier 'with fine yeast' to mature.

Only the finest ingredients are used in its production. Years of experience and constant quality checks guarantee the beer's unmistakable flavor.

A wheat beer for those who love outstanding and unforgettable wheat beer flavor.

Erdinger Dunkel

Erdinger Weissbier 'dark' is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbräu. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production.

The dark beer specialty is brewed according to an age-old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn't contain much more alcohol than Erdinger Weissbier 'with fine yeast'.

Like all Erdinger wheat beers, this dark variety also acquires its typical flavor from maturing in the bottle. Years of brewing experience coupled with state-of-the-art technology guarantee its excellent quality.

A real specialty for connoisseurs.

Brooklyn Lager

The award-winning Brooklyn Lager is amber-gold in colour, and displays a firm malt centre supported by a fine bitterness and floral hop aroma.

Caramel malts show in the finish. The aromatic qualities of the beer are enhanced by “dry-hopping”, the centuries-old practice of steeping the beer with fresh hops as it undergoes a long, cold maturation. The result is a wonderfully flavoured beer, smooth, refreshing and very versatile with food.
Dry-hopping is largely a British technique, which we’ve used in a Viennese-style beer to create an American original.

Well this is our first of many posts, we hope to keep our customers informed of what we are doing and give them some background information about the fine Ale’s & Wines we sell.

Feel free to recommend any tipple you have enjoyed on your travels and we may be able to organise a little reunion ;) .

After running licensed premises for many of years, we have decided to take a fresh approach and get back to basics.

We aim to give our customers a unique experience but with a hint of familiarity from pubs of old.

But still he lay moaning:
I was much further out than you thought
And not waving but drowning.
